Video interview software for healthcare hiring, for the questions a licence doesn't answer

Video interview software for healthcare hiring screens the part of a care role that paperwork can't: how someone speaks to a frightened patient, what they do when something is outside their scope, and whether they report a mistake. Applicants for aide, assistant and front desk roles record short answers on a phone, and the answers come back transcribed, scored and ranked. VoxScreen offers this on a permanent free plan covering 50 candidates a month. It does not verify licences, certifications, registrations or background, holds no security certifications, and is not built for hospital systems. It suits clinics, home care agencies and care homes hiring for non-physician roles.

Where screening breaks down

Care employers hire constantly. Turnover among aides and assistants is high, schedules are hard, and an unfilled shift means a patient or a client goes without. The person screening is a clinic manager or a care coordinator whose actual job is the rota, and the screen that gets done is a credential check and a short call.

The credential check is necessary and it tells you the least about how the hire will go. Two aides with the same certificate differ in whether they will call a nurse when a client seems off, whether they chart what they did, and whether they turn up. Those differences come out when you ask about a specific situation, and a rushed phone call rarely gets that far.

Candidates for these jobs are hard to reach by phone. Many work nights or split shifts for another employer. A call at eleven in the morning reaches voicemail, and the agency that reaches them first usually gets them.

How a round runs

  1. Verify licences, certifications and work eligibility in the way your regulator requires, as a separate step. Nothing in VoxScreen does this.
  2. Create a short interview per role. VoxScreen drafts scenario questions and scoring criteria, and a clinical lead should edit them so the criteria match your scope-of-practice rules.
  3. Send the link when someone applies. Candidates record on a phone after their shift, without an account, and can answer by voice.
  4. Review the ranked list with transcripts and per-criterion scores. Treat questions about scope and reporting as pass or fail, whatever the overall score says.
  5. Meet the shortlist in person and run references and background checks before any offer. The recorded round narrows the field. It doesn't clear anyone to work.

What it replaces

The short call after the credential check

A structured recorded answer about a real scenario tells you more than a five-minute call, and a clinical lead can review it without being on the phone.

Missed calls with candidates on other shifts

People who work nights can record at four in the morning. You hear from the candidates a daytime call never reaches.

One coordinator's impression

The same questions scored against written criteria can be checked by a second person, which matters in a field where a hiring decision may later need explaining.

What it costs at your volume

Plans differ in one thing: how many new candidates you add in a month. A candidate counts once, the first time their email address is added, and never again. Everything else is the same on every plan.

When this is the wrong tool

  • You need licence or credential verification, or background screening, built into the flow. VoxScreen has none of it. Willo sells identity and background checks as add-ons, and dedicated screening providers go further. VoxScreen vs Willo
  • You're a hospital or health system with an HR system of record, scheduling needs and a vendor security questionnaire. InterviewStream names healthcare as a market and states SOC 2 Type 2. VoxScreen isn't certified. VoxScreen vs InterviewStream
  • You're hiring physicians, nurse practitioners or senior clinicians. Those are small pools approached individually, and a recorded screen is the wrong first contact.
  • You want interviews, reference checks and applicant tracking from one vendor with accessibility documentation for a public-sector bid. VidCruiter publishes a VPAT and sells all three. VoxScreen vs VidCruiter

Common questions

Does VoxScreen verify licences or certifications?

No. It doesn't check licences, registrations, certifications, immunisation records, work eligibility or criminal background. Those have to be done separately, in whatever way your regulator and insurer require. The recorded interview covers judgement and communication only.

Which healthcare roles is it useful for?

High-volume, non-physician roles where how someone communicates is central: nursing assistants, home health aides, care workers, medical receptionists and schedulers. It adds little for senior clinical hires.

Is patient information involved?

It shouldn't be. Interviews are with job candidates about hypothetical situations, and questions should be written so nobody describes a real, identifiable patient. VoxScreen makes no healthcare-specific compliance claims and should not be used to store patient data.

Can the AI judge clinical competence?

No. It scores what a candidate said against criteria you wrote, from the transcript. It can show whether an answer included calling the nurse and documenting. It can't tell you whether someone can perform a transfer safely. Skills are assessed in person.

Our aides speak English as a second language. Does that work?

Yes. Each interview returns a CEFR spoken-language level, which helps where understanding a care plan or a phone instruction matters. Interviews can also be run in Spanish, French, German or Brazilian Portuguese.

What does it cost for a small clinic or agency?

The free plan covers 50 candidates a month with no end date, including scoring and unlimited reviewers. Agencies hiring more than that each month move to a paid plan, which raises the allowance and changes nothing else.
